3/12/68 Building Waterfalls by Werner rev 03/08

Overview

While there are many ways to construct waterfalls, our method is especially suited to the sandy soils of FL, but can be used anywhere. Flat, flagstone type rocks are also quite expensive here, averaging 20 cents a pound,  using cinder blocks or cement bricks will save substantial monies.

Materials needed:
Cinder Block or Brick depending on the size and height of waterfall
Piece of Pond Liner
Flagstone type (Flat rock)

Black Foam ( optional see text)

Building Instructions:

   1. Level the ground your waterfall will sit on.
   2. Arrange your Blocks in the step fashion shown, making sure you curve the waterfall by cocking the blocks in a semi-circle.
   3. Place the piece of waterproof pond liner over cinder blocks making sure the liner overlaps 3-4" into the pond. Make a water channel by raising the liner on both sides and then placing rocks under the side.

   4. Lead the hose or PVC from your pump over the back of the falls to the top of the channel you created.
   5. Arrange flat rocks to hide the plastic liner and cinder blocks (see illustration). It's not necessary to cement or mortar the rocks as the weight will hold them together. If you have small children that may dislodge the rocks using Black Foam.
